Lauren Brennan brings organizational management, creative skills

Washington, D.C. — Project Knitwell has hired Lauren Brennan as its new Managing Director, starting mid-August 2021. In hiring Brennan, the Project Knitwell Board of Directors cited her experience, energy and enthusiasm, as well as a variety of potential new connections for the organization.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lauren to the Project Knitwell family,” said Scott Stoner, Interim President. “The Search Committee and the Board found Lauren to be our ideal candidate and we look forward to working with her to grow our organization sustainably, both virtually and in person.”

Prior to joining Project Knitwell, Brennan worked as Manager of Communications at the School of Engineering at Brown University; Assistant Director of Honors and Career Initiatives at the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona; and Photography Editor at Sidecar Post. She also has worked as a freelance designer, photographer and marketing consultant for education and engineering firms. She has volunteered as a Wish Granter for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and serves as a Parent Ambassador for Acting for Young People at George Mason University. Brennan learned to knit from her grandmother and enjoys teaching new knitters.

“I am honored to join Project Knitwell to help lead its next decade of success,” commented Brennan. “I look forward to supporting this incredible community which understands and appreciates the positive impact of knitting. I am especially grateful to our volunteers, who navigated the challenge of these unprecedented and stressful times. I believe Project Knitwell is entering a new stage of growth to further realize its valuable mission and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Brennan is replacing Carol Caparosa, who founded Project Knitwell in 2010 and has led the organization twice, as well as serving on its Board of Directors. “We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Carol,” Stoner said. “Carol is the heart and soul of Project Knitwell and we are pleased that she will continue to contribute her talents and passions.”

Brennan holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington; a Master of Higher Education in Finance and Student Development Administration from the University of Arizona; and a Certificate in Digital Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design.
