Support our Programs
Contribute to Project Knitwell and help us serve more parents of sick kids, cancer patients, nurses and other caregivers, those affected by homelessness, at-risk teens, refugees, and others for whom knitting can provide a wellness tool. You can help us to reach more individuals — in local hospitals, community organizations, schools, and other sites, as well as through our Knitwell in the Cloud virtual programs available worldwide. Your gift in any amount will help us purchase quality supplies, which are always provided free of charge to our participants.
Project Knitwell continues to expand our reach and receive more national recognition, through participation at Vogue Knitting Live and the National Organization for Arts in Health. We look forward to continuing to share our mission and expand on research related to knitting for wellness. Join us in bringing more visibility to knitting as a wellness tool and develop plans for research to prove the benefits scientifically!
Your donation in any amount is greatly appreciated. Your funds can go towards the following projects:
- $1,000 will sponsor a new site
- $500 will provide 6 months of group materials
- $250 will sponsor 3 months of volunteer training
- $100 will provide 4 knitting kits with instruction

Other Ways to Support Our Mission
In-kind donations: We are grateful for donations of materials that support our mission as well (see more information about yarn specifically on the right). Contact us at info@knitwell.org if you have yarn or needles you would like to donate and we will let you know if we are able to accept them at this time. Please wait to make drop off arrangments until you have confirmed with us that we have storage capacity at this time. Thank you in advance for your support of our mission.
Volunteer: Project Knitwell relies on volunteers to carry out its work. We have opportunities in knitting instruction both in-person and online, as well as administrative support, fundraising, social media, event planning, and proposal writing. Please visit our volunteer page for more information and indicate your areas of interest, and we will contact you when we have opportunities that match. We look forward to having you as part of our team!
Learn more about our needs
Although we love a good stash as much as the next knitter, we must be selective in accepting yarn and needle donations to ensure that we can use your donated supplies with our program participants. We will usually accept:
- Yarn that is relatively new and banded.
- Yarn that has been stored in a ventilated area and is smoke-free and odor-free.
- Yarn that is of worsted, bulky, or super bulky weight.
If your yarn donation meets these conditions, get in touch! Please contact us first to see if we can accept your donation prior to arranging a drop-off meeting at our storage space.
